Identity Verification of Drug Screening Samples
In the United States, more than 12 million employees are subject to mandatory drug testing under the
Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines. These individuals are generally employed in safety-
sensitive positions and include truck drivers, airline pilots, bus drivers, mass transit operators, railroad
engineers, pipeline workers and mariners.
Positive drug screen results are frequently contested by the alleged donor. Most frequently,
individuals claim that the samples were mislabeled by the laboratory and the results are those from

The Power of DNA
DNA, a component of virtually every cell in the human body, is a powerful tool because each person's
DNA is different from every other individual's, except for identical twins. DNA can be recovered from
virtually any body fluid or tissue, including the conventional sample types typically collected in drug
screening such as blood, urine, saliva and hair follicles.
By comparing the DNA profile in the drug screen sample to that of a reference sample collected from
the claimant, accurate claim resolution can be made efficiently.
