GE Investigations offers DNA testing and other laboratory services through an accredited DNA laboratory (not a test kit).
Ever since the double helix structure of DNA was discovered by James Watson and Francis Crick in
1953, the incredible power of DNA continues to make itself known to science. One of the most powerful
uses of DNA is for the identifying of individuals involved in crimes.
Forensic science has been one of the most rapidly advancing areas of DNA identification. One of the
most far reaching advances has been the FBI Laboratory's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS)
began in 1990 as a pilot project. CODIS has grown to provide federal, state, and local crime
laboratories across the country a resource to exchange and compare DNA profiles.
This powerful system allows law enforcement to link crimes to each other and to convicted offenders.
According to the FBI, as of September 2004, CODIS has produced over 17,200 hits assisting in more
than 20,300 investigations.
Pro Bono DNA Testing Program
DNA analyses for select legal cases
GE Investigations provides pro bono DNA analyses for select legal cases from various
innocence programs nationwide. The program is designed to help various innocence organizations
with the large number of cases awaiting review or funding for laboratory testing.
If you feel your organization has a case that you would like to be considered for this service please
contact us with a brief description of the case, estimate of
the number and types of samples for DNA analyses, and main reason this case deserves additional
review.
Due to the many requests GE Investigations receives we are only able to offer these free
services to a select number of cases at any one time. If your case has been selected you will be
contacted by a representative of GE Investigations.
